I have just started private Salsa lessons. The challenge I am having is that my wife is now quite an accomplished dancer. The truth is that I just took two classes with her when she started about two years ago, she begged me to go, but because I didn’t like “Salsa” at the time, I quit, and told her never to invite me to a club, because I didn’t like the “scene”. Dear Intimidated,
This is just in your head. Number one, you don’t have any IDEA what they’re thinking, and number two, who really cares? Stop watching them, and focus on improving YOURSELF. If you cared about what every person thought of you, you would go NUTS trying to accommodate everyone and you would look like an idiot doing it. I love your website. I am an African American woman that accidentally fell in love with Salsa music and Spanish culture in general. I have spent the entire morning browsing through you site. I have two questions that I would like for you to address.
1) I have been a tomboy for the majority of my life and walking on heels has not been easy nor pleasant. Is there a rule that says you can’t Salsa in flats?????? I look graceful and elegant, but I am secure that I won’t lose my balance. I would appreciate your opinion. (more…)

When something goes wrong, don’t look at your dance partner with that “evil eye” – yes I’m talking about YOU.
Instead, see what lesson there is for you to learn from the experience, brush yourself off and MOVE ON.

Consider what God says to you personally when you read the following verses.
He will speak to you through reading His word – He promises to … and I think you might just like what He says!

…then your friend does not belong there with you and they should leave.
You’ll meet them another day…. elsewhere.
Like any sport, Salsa dancing is not for everyone.
You can leave with them, but do not let them judge you, lest they be judged.
The love of music and dance, and the expression of it with you and an awesome dance partner is NOT GIVEN TO EVERYONE by God.

When I was in Israel in 1998, I noticed the peculiar-looking Hebrew writing and alphabet written all over the place.* It was written “backwards” to me.* In other words, the strange symbols were read and written from right to left, instead of left to right, like I’m accustomed to.
In Jerusalem, I was impressed at how the stories that I read over the years in countless Bible study courses I’ve taken, were all coming to life right before my eyes.* The thousands of graves up the Mt. of Olives, the 2nd coming or first coming of Christ (depending on what religion you are…) the fighting over the Temple, the controversy of the rebuilding of the Temple, the strange electric energy in the city, the Via de la Rosa (the path Christ walked carrying his cross)… it all just took my breath away.* I was overwhelmed with excitement, sorrow, and curiosity.* (more…)

Hi Edie, just wanted to ask if you are Christian and how I can use Salsa as a means of reaching the world through dance ministry.
Dear Josia,
Yes, I do believe that Jesus was God in the flesh, and He is the only way to the Father.
When I teach, and/or deal with the public in any way, I think of the Four Standard Personality Types.
I found that the four books written about Christ’s life in the New Testament were written by four entirely different people with completely different personality types. (more…)
I’ve noticed that you mention God quite a few times and some Church activity, so I have a question for you:
I am 18, an active member at my Church, AWANA leader, Sunday school teacher, a helper in the youth group, and the list goes on.
My situation is, is that I have gotten a lot of negative feed back because if my love of dance. Along with a couple other persons, I was kicked out of a temporary singing group because one of the rules was absolutely no dancing. Something very impossible for me.
I do use my talents of dancing for God. I have done a lot of dance interpretation for church and related activities. But I also have a great passion for dancing, most importantly for Salsa. I feel great when I dance, I feel happy, I have even started to lose weight since I started to take Salsa lessons. (more…)
