It was Incredible.

I was in [city] last week, having a ball teaching and working with some eager students at what was a beautiful little nightclub. It had a fantastic wooden floor, great lighting, clean restrooms, and excellent ventilation. I was curious as to why there weren’t many Salseros there. In fact, we were the ONLY dancers there. Dear Nightclub Owners…
The following are some very important tips from dancers if you want your club to succeed:

Your Attitude…
The more clubs I visit all over the country, the more I’m beginning to realize how the club’s owners and promoter’s personalities show through in the ambiance of the clubs themselves. When a club promoter is unfriendly, stressed out, or uncaring, it reflects in the atmosphere of the club.

When the promoter is shaking hands, smiling, and greeting guests, it gives the clientele a warm feeling inside. Guests end up “wanting” to stay. They have a few more drinks, and will do everything they can to get their friends to come to this “friendly, easy-going, relaxing, and fun” place next time. To get guests talking positively about your club is 10 times as hard as them not saying anything (notice how I said “guests”, not dancers, people, or clients). It’s an uphill battle to get positive “word of mouth” to start happening. But get a single negative (more…)

Sticky Dance Floors

The other night we went out and I messed up my knee doing a high-speed spin on a sticky dance floor. This is not the first time I’ve experienced floors like this. Nightclub owners don’t see the need to listen to their paying “dance partner” clientele. After I heal, do you have any recommendations for us? What to do?
