Learn to Salsa dance with Edie, The Salsa FREAK!!

“Dear Edie,
I am curious to know how you handle men you consider to be acting fresh. For example, the last time that I went out dancing, there was this one fellow who insisted on full body contact during the entire song. This was not just with me, but all his partners! I am not accustomed to this sort of intimacy on a dance floor, except with favorite partners (good dancers that I’ve known awhile, that don’t smell bad), and usually only with a tango or a fox trot.
– Full Body”

Dear Full Body,
Men that want full-body contact for the entire song … I HATE THAT!!! Even if they are BRAD PITT, I don’t think I could stand that the entire song. No way.

I’ve run across men that want this as well, and it just grosses me out. Especially when the both of you are sweating and dripping wet. YUCK!

Full – body contact is great for portions of the song, when called for in his social dance choreography. I don’t mind it every once in a while, but NOT CONSTANTLY.

Girlfriend, this is what you do to NOT offend him:

  • You force him about 1/3 less than arm’s length away.
  • If he continues to try and get too close, force him away again.
  • If he gives you a weird look, tell him “It’s really hot”, and flap your hands in your face like you’re dying of heat.

At that point he’ll probably leave you solo dancing, and at that point you can breathe, relax, finish the song, and swear to never dance with him again.

Happy Dancing!
