Number One “Excellent Following” Technique:
Ladies, the following will
… make him LOVE dancing with you.
… make guys stand in LINE waiting to dance with you.
… keep you DANCING on that floor ALL NIGHT LONG!
It’s all about the EGG.
YOUR “DANCE FRAME” NEEDS TO BE FIRM.
I CALL THIS THE “EGG”. He’s got one, you have one.
Ladies, I used to blame men A LOT for every little thing that went wrong the dance floor. It was always “his fault” in my mind. When I started teaching, and learned how to lead, I went through a HUGE WAKE-UP CALL. If you are dancing NY or LA Style Salsa, Yes, even the ladies need solid frame.
(This rule for women does NOT apply to Cuban nor pure Miami Style – where the lady’s arms must be spaghetti arms if not they will be broken off during the dance.)
Ladies, pretend you are holding a gym ball.
… Yes, that goes for you as well gentlemen.
HERE’S HOW:
If there were a set of eyes in each fold of your elbows, the “eyes” should see be looking at each other as often as humanly possible WHILE YOU ARE DANCING WITH HIM. This simple, but rarely taught technique does the following:
- Speeds you up.
- Makes you easier to lead.
- Makes you tighter.
- Helps you keep balance.
- Controls a wavering body
- Tightens your core.
- Helps your partner lead you into more intricate moves that only the Best of the Best can follow.
THE CONCEPT OF THE EGG: (Edie’s Terminology for “Frame of Dance”)
Notice how far in front of her back her elbows are – almost half her forearm length
The folds of her elbows should see each other.
(larger busted women may have an issue BUT I HOPE YOU GET MY POINT).
HAVING EXCELLENT FRAME (a Good Egg) is “everything” to him.
Ladies, You could be beat down, worn out, or have a bad hair day… but if you got great frame, YOU ARE GOLDEN TO EVERY MAN YOU DANCE WITH!!!
