SALSA POETRY
– BY Anna Semlyen

“Hi Edie
As promised, your poem from your spinning class in Blackpool, England. I’ve written over 30 poems inspired by Salsa. Enjoy it.
As you can tell, I enjoyed your class.”

Edie,
I’m learning spinning
Beginning to spot
Getting a lot of speed
Feed my hand through theirs
Punch the air
With my elbow
The speed you go
Depends on the frame
The game is the same
Left or right
Your sight is on the guy’s eyes
See if they surprise you
With a corkscrew
A fast left turn
Where you learn
To spin down then rise
Counter clockwise
You realise
The man can change hands
He circles a pizza
Feeds his fingers round
The place is found
Over her toes
And then he throws
Her right hand over his shoulder
Waves his ribs
Her head kicks back on ‘six’
In a stylish dip
Edie lets rip
Abuses her man
Because she can

Edie the Salsa Freak
Is 43 and hasn’t peaked
She can teach technique
Edie seeks to be unique
